PALIANYTSIA 2022

Light installation Reflection was created by Zhanna Kadyrova using the words of a phrase written by Oleksandr Dovzhenko on July 2, 1942, during World War II:
“I do not want to live better than my people. I cannot and do not want to live and watch the destruction and agony of my people. I want to share their fate entirely, completely, and without hesitation.”
The letters reflect light and shape a space that invites viewers to look into the shadows and empty spaces in search of glimmers of hope.
Today, amid the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war, this phrase resonates once again — as an echo of history that continues to reverberate in the present.
The installation is also dedicated to those who, despite the war, chose to remain in Ukraine and continue to live and work here.
The work was created as part of the ICKPA festival held in Kyiv — a Georgian-Ukrainian project that emphasizes solidarity between the two nations.
