PALIANYTSIA 2022

In Harmless War (2023) series, Kadyrova collects bullet-riddled metal sheets from roofs and gates across war-torn Ukraine. These fragments, marked by violence, are repurposed into sculptural compositions of basic geometric shapes, coated in a neutral, all-leveling layer of white paint. For Kadyrova, this gesture amounts to a form of "conservation" of physical violence — a way to preserve trauma in material form while formally abstracting it. Although the act of transforming these remnants into minimalist geometries decontextualizes them, Kadyrova retains their latent symbolic and emotional weight.
Her aesthetic approach references Western art-historical traditions, particularly minimalist sculpture and still-life compositions, allowing her work to resonate with a broader art audience. At the same time, it underscores the dissonance between formal beauty and the violent realities these materials embody — pointing to the fragmentation, elusiveness, and representational challenges of war.
