ZHYLMASSYV. (Apartment block)
The project is an example of site-specific art and has been exposed in several exhibition spaces interacting with them and reacting to peculiarities of the local context. Kadyrova creates nominal walls and blocks using transparent plexiglass brick as their basic element. Opposite sides of each element show photographic images of interiors and exteriors of real accommodations. Those photographs resulted from research made by the author: some of them were taken by herself during the expedition to the regions of Ukraine, and some
were sent by people from Ukrainian cities and villages who responded to the artist's call.
The work refers to a conventional borderline, which separates personal space of an accommodation from an urban environment, and raises the question of how real and irresistible this line is. Providing an opportunity to look inside someone's apartment, Kadyrova puts in doubt the illusion of protected privacy.
